Job Description

Qualifications:

  • Valid certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) or eligibility to obtain one
  • Experience working with school-aged children, ideally within a school setting
  • Strong understanding of Braille, accessible technology, and tools for visually impaired students
  • Excellent communication and collaborative skills to partner with educators, therapists, and families
  • Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
  • Creative problem-solving and adaptability to meet diverse learning needs

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction to students with visual impairments, focusing on academic content and orientation/mobility skills
  • Adapt classroom materials and recommend assistive technology to maximize access to curriculum
  • Collaborate with teachers and support staff to design and implement accommodations within inclusive classrooms
  • Conduct functional vision assessments and contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings
  • Offer training and support to teachers, aides, and parents regarding strategies and tools for visually impaired students
  • Maintain accurate progress records and fulfill required documentation for compliance
