Empower students to reach their full potential by supporting those with visual impairments in a rewarding contract assignment. Work closely with school staff, families, and students to provide specialized instruction, resources, and adaptations that make a real difference in educational outcomes. Your expertise will be essential in fostering both academic success and independence for visually impaired learners.
Qualifications:
- Valid certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) or eligibility to obtain one
- Experience working with school-aged children, ideally within a school setting
- Strong understanding of Braille, accessible technology, and tools for visually impaired students
- Excellent communication and collaborative skills to partner with educators, therapists, and families
- Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs)
- Creative problem-solving and adaptability to meet diverse learning needs
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction to students with visual impairments, focusing on academic content and orientation/mobility skills
- Adapt classroom materials and recommend assistive technology to maximize access to curriculum
- Collaborate with teachers and support staff to design and implement accommodations within inclusive classrooms
- Conduct functional vision assessments and contribute to multidisciplinary team meetings
- Offer training and support to teachers, aides, and parents regarding strategies and tools for visually impaired students
- Maintain accurate progress records and fulfill required documentation for compliance
