Make a meaningful difference in the lives of elementary school students by providing essential braille instruction and supporting accessible learning environments. This contract position is designed for a skilled Braillist, ready to work closely with students and staff during in-person school days, averaging around 20 hours per week. As a vital educational partner, youll focus on both direct instruction and production of high-quality braille materials, ensuring all students have the resources they need to succeed.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Demonstrated competency in Unified English Braille code, proven by completing one of the following: WSSB Braille Competency Test, NBPCB Unified English Braille exam, or holding a Library of Congress certificate in literary braille transcribing (WAC 181-82-130).
- Previous experience in school-based settings strongly preferred.
- Willingness and ability to obtain fingerprint clearance as well as successful completion of WSP and FBI background checks, including sexual misconduct clearance.
- Valid Washington State Drivers License or equivalent evidence of reliable transportation.
- Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach to working with teachers, administrators, and families.
- Passion for promoting independence and access for visually impaired learners.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver high-quality braille instruction to elementary students.
- Produce educational materials in braille, maintaining the highest accuracy and accessibility standards.
- Collaborate with teachers and support staff to implement individualized learning plans.
- Monitor student progress, documenting achievements and identifying areas for support.
- Attend meetings and participate in professional development relevant to the role.
