Job Description

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Education of the Visually Impaired or a related field
  • Valid teaching certification for Visually Impaired students (TVI) in the state or eligibility to obtain
  • Experience in delivering instruction to students with varying degrees of visual impairment, both individually and in small group settings
  • Familiarity with Braille and assistive technology used by students with visual disabilities
  • Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, families, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Comfortable developing and implementing individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to specific student needs

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction to students with visual impairments, adapting curriculum and teaching strategies as needed
  • Conduct assessments to determine students functional vision and learning needs
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, support staff, and families to ensure an inclusive and accessible learning experience
  • Coordinate and implement appropriate use of adaptive devices and accessible materials
  • Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to comprehensive educational planning
  • Advocate for students access, independence, and success within the school community
