Job Description

Key Qualifications & Experience:

  • Valid teaching certification with an endorsement in Visual Impairment or eligibility to obtain
  • Proven experience delivering instruction to students with visual impairments in a school environment
  • Proficiency in Braille and the use of adaptive technology (screen readers, magnification devices, tactile materials)
  • Strong communication skills for collaborating with students, families, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Ability to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • A commitment to accessibility, equity, and empowering student independence

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assess the instructional needs and strengths of students with visual impairments
  • Adapt and modify curriculum for accessibility using Braille, large print, and digital resources
  • Work closely with classroom teachers, therapists, and support staff to ensure appropriate accommodations and modifications
  • Train school staff on the use of adaptive technology and inclusive classroom strategies
  • Participate in IEP meetings, documenting progress and contributing to goal setting
  • Foster a positive learning environment that encourages self-advocacy and success
