This full-time, contract opportunity serves schools throughout the New Orleans, LA area, offering you the chance to impact a diverse and vibrant community. With your expertise, youll help empower students to access their curriculum, advocate for themselves, and build essential life skills.
What Were Looking For:
- Active Louisiana Department of Education certification as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (required)
- Experience working with students who are blind or have low vision, ideally within a school setting
- Ability to collaborate with educators, families, and related service providers
- Flexibility to serve an itinerant caseload across multiple campuses
- Willingness to complete time-sensitive credentialing requirements, including drug screening and fingerprinting
- Passion for fostering independence and academic achievement in students with visual impairments
Responsibilities:
- Provide direct and consultative services to students with visual impairments, K-12 (caseload and school assignments to be determined)
- Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Teach students to use assistive technology and adaptive materials
- Collaborate with general and special education staff to ensure accessible instruction
- Communicate regularly with families and contribute to student progress meetings
- Adhere to all school calendar days; work Monday through Friday, 7 hours per day (plus a 30-minute unpaid lunch)
