Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Current certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Special Education or related field
- Proven experience working with students who are visually impaired across various age groups
- Strong communication and collaboration skills to partner with staff, families, and outside agencies
- Knowledge of Braille, assistive technologies, and individualized instruction methods
- Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) tailored to student needs
- Flexibility and adaptability to apply instructional strategies in diverse learning settings
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct instruction to students with visual impairments, supporting academic and independent living skills
- Adapt curriculum materials and classroom activities using appropriate accommodations and modifications
- Collaborate with general education teachers and support staff to ensure full student participation
- Conduct functional vision assessments and contribute to eligibility evaluations
- Maintain effective documentation and progress monitoring for each student
- Educate and train school staff and families about best practices in supporting visually impaired learners
- Support transition planning for students across grade levels or to post-secondary opportunities
