Job Description

Desired qualifications and experience:

  • Valid teaching certification for Visual Impairments, or eligibility to obtain appropriate credentials
  • Background in instructional strategies and assistive technologies for students with visual impairments
  • Ability to develop individualized education plans (IEPs) and track progress effectively
  • Strong collaboration skills when working with other teachers and multidisciplinary teams
  • Knowledge of Braille literacy and orientation/mobility training is preferred
  • Excellent communication and organizational abilities
  • Flexibility and resourcefulness in adapting educational materials

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction to students with visual impairments in individual and small group settings
  • Consult with classroom teachers to adapt lessons, materials, and classroom environments for accessibility
  • Develop and implement IEPs, monitoring student progress and communicating with families
  • Recommend, teach, and maintain assistive technology and adaptive devices
  • Guide students in developing independence, self-advocacy, and daily living skills
  • Deliver professional development or guidance to staff as needed regarding inclusive practices
  • Maintain accurate and timely records consistent with school and district requirements
