Desired Qualifications:

  • Valid teaching certification and endorsement as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (VI)
  • Proven experience working with children and adolescents who are blind or visually impaired
  • Strong knowledge of Braille, assistive technology, and adaptations for low vision needs
  • Familiarity with IEP development and implementation
  • Excellent communication and collaboration abilities to work effectively with families, educators, and support staff
  • Flexibility and creativity in adapting curriculum and instructional strategies
  • Commitment to student advocacy and supporting individual learning objectives

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess students visual needs and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to develop and maintain IEPs
  • Provide individualized and small group instruction in Braille, orientation and mobility skills, and the use of technology devices
  • Consult with teachers regarding classroom accommodations, materials, and accessibility
  • Equip families and school personnel with resources, strategies, and training to support student independence
  • Monitor student progress and adjust teaching plans as needed
  • Ensure compliance with federal and state laws governing special education services
  • Advocate for accessibility and inclusion throughout school communities
