Desired Qualifications:
- Valid teaching certification and endorsement as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (VI)
- Proven experience working with children and adolescents who are blind or visually impaired
- Strong knowledge of Braille, assistive technology, and adaptations for low vision needs
- Familiarity with IEP development and implementation
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities to work effectively with families, educators, and support staff
- Flexibility and creativity in adapting curriculum and instructional strategies
- Commitment to student advocacy and supporting individual learning objectives
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess students visual needs and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to develop and maintain IEPs
- Provide individualized and small group instruction in Braille, orientation and mobility skills, and the use of technology devices
- Consult with teachers regarding classroom accommodations, materials, and accessibility
- Equip families and school personnel with resources, strategies, and training to support student independence
- Monitor student progress and adjust teaching plans as needed
- Ensure compliance with federal and state laws governing special education services
- Advocate for accessibility and inclusion throughout school communities
