Make a meaningful difference for students with visual impairments as a contract teacher supporting learners near Juneau, AK. In this impactful role, youll foster growth and independence by tailoring instruction and accommodations to each students unique needs. Youll also collaborate with school teams to ensure access and inclusion across educational settings.
Key Qualifications:
- Valid state certification for teaching students with visual impairments (TVI)
- Demonstrated experience working with children or young adults with vision loss
- Proficient in developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Familiarity with assistive technology for the visually impaired, such as Braille devices and screen readers
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work closely with staff, students, and families
Primary Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct instruction and adaptive strategies to students with visual impairments, both individually and in group settings
- Assess student needs and collaborate on the development and modification of IEPs
- Introduce and support the use of assistive devices and accessible materials
- Consult with classroom teachers and paraprofessionals to adapt lessons and classroom environments
- Provide guidance to families to help reinforce learning and independence at home
- Document student progress and maintain compliance with state and federal special education regulations
