Desired Qualifications:

  • Valid teaching certification with a specialization in visual impairment
  • Experience working with school-aged children who are blind or visually impaired
  • Strong knowledge of braille, assistive technology, and adaptive instructional strategies
  • Ability to assess students needs and develop individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with multidisciplinary teams
  • Compassionate, patient, and flexible approach to diverse learning styles

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver tailored instruction, adapting curriculum materials to accommodate students visual needs
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, paraprofessionals, and families to ensure accessibility and inclusivity
  • Provide direct instruction in braille reading and writing, use of assistive devices, and orientation/mobility skills
  • Monitor student progress, document performance, and adjust interventions as needed
  • Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to the development of student goals
  • Advocate for resources and modifications that enhance access to learning environments
