Responsibilities include designing and implementing individualized educational plans tailored to meet the unique needs of visually impaired students. Youll conduct assessments, recommend appropriate adaptive technology, and provide direct instruction in specialized areas such as Braille, orientation and mobility skills, and the use of assistive devices. Act as an essential resource for faculty, staff, and caregivers, offering guidance on best practices for accessibility and advocating for students needs in the classroom setting.
Desired qualifications and experience:
- Valid teaching certification for students with visual impairments (TVI)
- Bachelors or masters degree in special education or a related field
- Experience teaching or supporting students who are visually impaired preferred
- Proficiency in Braille, assistive technology, and adaptive materials
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and collaboration skills
- Ability to develop effective instructional strategies and document student progress
Key responsibilities include:
- Creating and updating individualized educational plans (IEPs)
- Instructing students in Braille literacy and use of adaptive technology
- Collaborating with general education teachers and related service providers
- Consulting with families regarding strategies for home support
