Job Description

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Valid teaching certification in Visual Impairment for the state of Texas (or eligibility to obtain).
  • Experience working with students who are blind or have low vision in school settings.
  • Strong knowledge of Braille, assistive technologies, and adaptive instructional strategies.
  • Excellent communication skills for working with students, teachers, and families.
  • Ability to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to student needs.
  • Problem-solving mindset, flexible approach, and a passion for advocacy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction in academic and compensatory skills (including Braille, orientation and mobility, and assistive technology).
  • Assess student abilities and progress to ensure successful learning outcomes.
  • Adapt teaching materials and classroom environments for accessibility and inclusion.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to modify curriculum and support learning.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary IEP meetings and provide expert recommendations.
  • Offer training and guidance for staff and families on strategies and resources.
