In this contract role, you'll play a crucial part in helping students with visual impairments reach their full academic and personal potential. Your specialized knowledge will ensure equitable access to curriculum and foster an inclusive, growth-oriented atmosphere.
Qualifications & Desired Experience:
- Valid state teaching certification for Visual Impairments or eligibility for certification in Texas
- Bachelors or masters degree in Special Education, Visual Impairment, or a related field
- Experience teaching or supporting students with visual impairments in a school setting
- Proficiency with Braille, assistive technologies, and adaptive devices
- Strong collaboration skills to work with teachers, staff, and families
- Clear communication and compassionate advocacy for each students needs
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop, adapt, and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with visual impairments
- Provide direct instruction in Braille reading and writing, orientation and mobility, and use of assistive technology
- Assess and track student progress, adjusting instructional strategies as necessary
- Consult with general education teachers to modify classroom materials and strategies
- Facilitate smooth transitions between grade levels or campuses for students
- Advocate for an inclusive environment where all students can thrive
