Job Description

Make a meaningful impact supporting students with visual impairments by providing specialized instruction and expertise across a diverse K-12+ caseload. This contract opportunity allows you to work within an itinerant model, supporting elementary, middle, and high school students in both general education and specialized settings. Youll collaborate with educators and families, helping ensure student access to curriculum through adaptive methods and assistive technology.

This role is full-time, at 35 hours per week, with flexibility to potentially accommodate part-time arrangements. Although travel between campuses in the Chattanooga area is involved, assignments are geographically grouped to minimize commute times. The district is open to virtual candidates with a minimum of five years experience operating as a Virtual Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI), particularly those who thrive in a remote support environment.

Key Qualifications:

  • Active DOE teaching certification
  • Experience as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired; minimum 5 years virtual TVI experience required for remote roles
  • Strong knowledge of Braille and various assistive technologies; familiarity with the Federal Quota program is a plus
  • Previous work with both general education and special education settings, including students with multiple disabilities
  • Comfort with online platforms, including TN Pulse for IEP documentation
  • Familiarity with Chromebooks used by students in the district
  • Completion of fingerprinting and background checks as required

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction and support services to students who are visually impaired, K-12+
  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized education plans, and participate in IEP meetings
  • Travel between assigned campuses, or provide virtual support, as specified
  • Coordinate with educational teams to adapt materials and ensure accessibility
