This opportunity seeks experienced and passionate Teachers for the Visually Impaired (TVI) to provide specialized instruction for students with visual impairments in multiple schools across the New Orleans, LA area. This is a full-time, itinerant role, involving travel between school locations within the district.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver individualized instruction to students with visual impairments, tailoring educational approaches to meet each student's unique needs.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, parents, and other professionals to support student access to the general curriculum.
- Conduct assessments and monitor student progress consistently.
- Provide training and support in the use of assistive technology and adaptive materials.
- Maintain accurate documentation in accordance with district policies and state requirements.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Active Louisiana DOE Certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired is required.
- Experience working with visually impaired students, with preference given to candidates with 0-10+ years of relevant experience.
- Ability to travel between multiple school locations within the district (itinerant service).
- Successful completion of district-required drug screening and fingerprinting.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with students, families, and school personnel.
Location: This role supports schools throughout the New Orleans, LA area with a travel component to various district campuses.
Schedule: Full-time, 35 hours per week, Monday through Friday in line with the school calendar. Typical hours include 7 hours per day plus a 30-minute unpaid lunch break.
