Make a real difference for students with visual impairments in a dynamic educational setting. This rewarding contract opportunity offers the chance to provide direct and indirect services as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired, working throughout area schools for the 2026-2027 academic year. Youll be an essential resource, collaborating with educational teams, families, and the Louisiana Department of Education to empower students and ensure access to a high-quality education.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide specialized instruction and support for visually impaired students across assigned sites.
• Travel between multiple schools daily to facilitate services and address student needs.
• Deliver engaging in-service training for school personnel on best practices and available supports.
• Collaborate with classroom teachers to adapt and prepare reading materials in accessible formats, including Braille.
• Procure appropriate textbooks, technology, and learning materials.
• Maintain regular communication with general educators and appropriate agencies.
• Utilize and train others in assistive technology purposely designed for visually impaired learners.
• Offer instruction in Braille and, when possible, orientation and mobility skills.
• Complete documentation and other tasks as assigned by the Director of IDEA.

Requirements:

• Bachelors degree and active Louisiana DOE certification in visual impairment required.
• Minimum three years experience in elementary, secondary, or special education.
• Demonstrated expertise in assistive technology, Braille instruction, and data-driven decision-making.
• Familiarity with orientation and mobility training, preferred.
• Exceptional interpersonal, analytical, and organizational skills.
• Ability to independently travel between worksites.
• Completion of drug screening and district fingerprinting required.
