Step into a pivotal contract opportunity supporting students as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired, serving schools in the New Orleans, LA area. This full-time role is designed for dedicated professionals passionate about making education accessible to all learners. The assignment is itinerant, with school locations to be determined, giving you a dynamic and varied experience throughout the academic year.
This position begins as soon as possible and runs through May 22, 2026, with working hours following a school-based calendarMonday through Friday, 7 hours per day, plus a 30-minute unpaid lunch. Anticipate an engaging and rewarding caseload, supporting students success across various age groups.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid and active Louisiana DOE teaching certificate is required
- Experience as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI) in school settings preferred
- Ability to adapt instruction to meet individual student needs
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Flexibility to travel between assigned schools as an itinerant educator
- Must be able to complete district-requested credentialing, including drug screening and fingerprinting
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver specialized instruction and support for visually impaired students, adjusting teaching strategies as needed
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, staff, and families to develop and implement effective individual education plans (IEPs)
- Conduct assessments and develop resources to facilitate accessibility and learning
- Travel between school sites as assignments require
