Job Description

A full-time contract opportunity is available for Teachers of the Visually Impaired (TVI) in the New Orleans, LA area, with assignments across various schools in Jefferson Parish. This role involves providing specialized instructional support to students with visual impairments, often in an itinerant capacity, serving a range of age groups. The position requires an active Louisiana Department of Education certification in Teaching Visually Impaired (TVI) and successful completion of district-required drug screening and fingerprinting.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver instruction and support tailored to students with visual impairments following individual education plans (IEPs)
  • Collaborate with general education teachers, families, and support personnel to ensure accessibility and inclusion
  • Implement appropriate teaching strategies and assistive technology to enhance student learning
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation in accordance with district and state standards
  • Participate in professional development and meetings as required

Qualifications:

  • Active Louisiana DOE certification in Teaching Visually Impaired (TVI) required
  • Experience working with visually impaired students preferred, but open to candidates with 0+ years
  • Ability to work itinerantly across multiple school sites within the district
  • Compliance with all required screenings including drug test and fingerprinting

Schedule and Location:

  • Full-time, 35 hours per week, Monday through Friday based on the school calendar
  • Daily schedule includes 7 hours with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break
  • Position starts ASAP through May 22, 2026
  • Work locations are within the New Orleans, LA area
