Job Description

Make a lasting impact supporting K-12 students with moderate to severe vision impairments in an educational setting. This contract role is perfect for an experienced Teacher of the Visually Impaired eager to empower students utilizing cutting-edge assistive technology and individualized instructional approaches. Based near Hampton, VA, you'll work across multiple schools on an itinerant schedule, collaborating with diverse educational teams.

Key Qualifications:

  • Current Virginia Teacher of the Visually Impaired Certification required.
  • Proven experience working with moderate to severe vision impairment populations within school settings, K-12 preferred.
  • Strong background in conducting vision assessments and implementing specialized instruction.
  • Familiarity with a range of assistive technology tools and strategies.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with classroom teachers, special education teams, and families.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction and support to students with vision impairment across assigned locations.
  • Perform vision assessments and develop individualized educational plans in concert with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Teach students to use various assistive technologies that facilitate learning and independence.
  • Offer consultative services to educators and families regarding best practices for visually impaired students.
  • Maintain accurate records and comply with all reporting and documentation requirements.

This opportunity runs from August 24th to June 4th (full school year), with a full-time schedule of 37.5 hours per week. Youll participate in a remote panel interview process, with decisions moving swiftly. Onboarding is streamlined, requiring only a signed contract, and plenty of peer support awaits you from fellow professionals.
