Job Description

Make a meaningful impact in the lives of students as a Visually Impaired Teacher on a contract basis. This role offers the opportunity to provide specialized instruction and support for students with visual impairments, helping them succeed across academic and daily living activities. You will collaborate with educational teams to create accessible learning environments and offer vital resources, guidance, and encouragement.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • State certification or licensure as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
  • Experience working with students who are blind or have low vision in a school setting
  • Strong understanding of Braille, assistive technology, and accessibility tools
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with students, educators, and families
  • Passion for fostering student independence and advocacy
  • Ability to develop and adapt Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students with visual impairments

Responsibilities:

  • Assess students functional vision and learning needs
  • Develop and implement individualized instructional programs tailored to each student's requirements
  • Teach Braille, orientation and mobility skills, daily living skills, and technology use
  • Work closely with classroom teachers and support staff to ensure accessible classroom materials and instruction
  • Collaborate regularly with families to provide resources, updates, and support
  • Monitor student progress and adjust instructional strategies as needed
  • Advocate for the needs of students with visual impairments within the school community
