Qualifications and Experience:

  • Valid certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
  • Bachelors or Masters degree in Special Education or related field
  • Experience working with students who have varying degrees of visual impairment, preferably in a school setting
  • Proficiency in braille and assistive technology
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Commitment to fostering an inclusive and adaptive learning environment

Responsibilities:

  • Design and deliver individualized instruction to students with visual impairments across multiple grade levels
  • Assess student needs and recommend appropriate accommodations, materials, and technologies
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, therapists, and family members to support student progress and accessibility
  • Monitor and document student growth, adapting teaching strategies as needed
  • Participate in IEP meetings and contribute expertise to team discussions
  • Provide resources and training to staff and families on best practices for visually impaired students
  • Travel between sites as needed to support students throughout the district
