Qualifications and Experience:
- Valid certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Bachelors or Masters degree in Special Education or related field
- Experience working with students who have varying degrees of visual impairment, preferably in a school setting
- Proficiency in braille and assistive technology
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and adaptive learning environment
Responsibilities:
- Design and deliver individualized instruction to students with visual impairments across multiple grade levels
- Assess student needs and recommend appropriate accommodations, materials, and technologies
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, therapists, and family members to support student progress and accessibility
- Monitor and document student growth, adapting teaching strategies as needed
- Participate in IEP meetings and contribute expertise to team discussions
- Provide resources and training to staff and families on best practices for visually impaired students
- Travel between sites as needed to support students throughout the district
