Qualifications:

  • Valid teaching certification specific to Visual Impairment (TVI) in Texas
  • Demonstrated experience working with students who are blind or have low vision
  • Strong understanding of Braille, assistive technology, and adaptive equipment
  • Ability to develop and implement individualized educational plans (IEPs)
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with students, families, and team members
  • Commitment to promoting an inclusive and accessible learning environment

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction to students with visual impairments, tailoring lessons to individual needs
  • Assess functional vision and learning media, documenting progress and outcomes
  • Collaborate regularly with classroom teachers, therapists, and other staff to ensure cohesive support
  • Train and support faculty in the use of assistive technology and accommodations
  • Facilitate orientation and mobility training in cooperation with certified specialists
  • Maintain accurate records, progress reports, and compliance with all state and federal regulations
  • Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to the development of goals and objectives
