Job Description

Qualifications and desired experience:

  • Valid teaching certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
  • Minimum of a bachelors degree in Special Education, Visual Impairment, or related field
  • Previous experience working with school-aged children who are blind or visually impaired
  • Proficiency adapting curriculum, materials, and technology for accessibility
  • Strong collaboration skills to partner effectively with general education teachers, therapists, and families
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide individualized and small-group instruction to support academic and functional goals for visually impaired students
  • Assess students needs and create tailored education plans addressing academic, social, and functional skills
  • Adapt and modify classroom materials; utilize assistive technologies and Braille as necessary
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and school teams to develop accessible lesson plans
  • Offer consultation and professional development for staff regarding visual impairment accommodations
  • Track student progress, maintain accurate records, and contribute to IEP meetings
  • Serve as an advocate, promoting self-confidence and independence for students within the learning community
