Qualifications and desired experience:
- Valid teaching certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Minimum of a bachelors degree in Special Education, Visual Impairment, or related field
- Previous experience working with school-aged children who are blind or visually impaired
- Proficiency adapting curriculum, materials, and technology for accessibility
- Strong collaboration skills to partner effectively with general education teachers, therapists, and families
- Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
Key responsibilities:
- Provide individualized and small-group instruction to support academic and functional goals for visually impaired students
- Assess students needs and create tailored education plans addressing academic, social, and functional skills
- Adapt and modify classroom materials; utilize assistive technologies and Braille as necessary
- Work collaboratively with teachers and school teams to develop accessible lesson plans
- Offer consultation and professional development for staff regarding visual impairment accommodations
- Track student progress, maintain accurate records, and contribute to IEP meetings
- Serve as an advocate, promoting self-confidence and independence for students within the learning community
