Desired Skills & Experience:

  • Valid state teaching certification in Visual Impairments or equivalent endorsement
  • Demonstrated experience working with children or adolescents with visual impairments in an educational setting
  • Proficient with adaptive technologies, braille instruction, and alternative communication resources
  • Strong collaboration skills to work alongside general educators and support teams
  • Ability to develop and adapt Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to students unique needs
  • Knowledge of current best practices for inclusive classroom instruction

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct and consultative instruction to students with visual impairments, supporting their participation in both general and special education environments
  • Assess students functional vision and learning needs, advocating for appropriate accommodations and modifications
  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized instructional plans integrating assistive technology and accessible materials
  • Collaborate with staff, administration, and families to promote a supportive learning climate and effective communication
  • Offer professional development and guidance to other educators regarding accessibility, braille, and specialized curriculum development
  • Maintain accurate records and participate in IEP meetings, progress reporting, and multidisciplinary teams
