As a Visually Impaired Teacher, you'll play a crucial role in designing and adapting curriculum, materials, and instruction to ensure each student engages fully in their learning journey.
Qualifications and Desired Experience:
Successful completion of a state-approved program in visual impairment or related area
Current teaching certification with an endorsement in visual impairment (or ability to obtain)
Demonstrated expertise in Braille, assistive technology, and accessible instructional strategies
Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Previous experience collaborating with school staff, families, and support professionals is highly valued
Key Responsibilities:
Assess student needs and develop individualized education plans tailored for visual accessibility
Modify and adapt classroom materials and curriculum for learners with visual impairments
Provide direct instruction in Braille, orientation and mobility, and technology usage
Offer guidance to classroom teachers and paraprofessionals on best practices for supporting visually impaired students
Collaborate with families, specialists, and related service providers
Conduct ongoing evaluations to monitor progress and adjust interventions as necessary
Advocate for inclusion, independence, and engagement in all aspects of the school community
