Qualifications and Experience Sought:

  • Valid certification or endorsement as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
  • Strong experience in Braille transcription and instruction
  • Familiarity with adaptive technology and accessible instructional strategies
  • Proven ability to develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students with visual impairments
  • Collaborative and flexible approach to working with classroom teachers, staff, and families
  • Commitment to fostering independence, accessibility, and inclusion in an educational environment

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct and consultative instruction to students with visual impairments, supporting Braille literacy and the use of assistive technology
  • Adapt curriculum materials into appropriate accessible formats, including Braille, large print, and tactile graphics
  • Provide training and support to staff and families regarding strategies and tools that enhance learning for visually impaired students
  • Conduct assessments to determine students functional vision and learning needs
  • Advocate for accessible classrooms and equal educational opportunities
  • Maintain thorough progress documentation and participate in IEP meetings to inform educational planning
