Job Description

A unique contract opportunity is available for a dedicated professional specializing in instruction for students who are blind or visually impaired. Working approximately 20 hours per week during the 20262027 school year, youll make a meaningful difference with a diverse group of learnersabout 23 students, including at least one student currently acquiring Braille skills. Expect a focus on both direct and indirect services, with no case management required.

Key Qualifications:

  • Active Minnesota Professional Educator Licensing and Standards Board (PELSB) license in Blind or Visually Impaired (BVI) education (special education).
  • Demonstrated experience as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI/BVI), with a solid understanding of academic and adaptive strategies for students with visual impairments.
  • Proficiency with Braille instruction and assistive technology tools for visual impairment.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate with school staff and families.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct and indirect instruction to students with visual impairments, adapting materials and curriculum as needed.
  • Support and consult with classroom teachers to ensure cohesion of instructional strategies and accommodations.
  • Track and document student progress, tailoring approaches based on individual needs.
  • Provide expertise for individualized education program (IEP) implementation and relevant accommodations.
  • Serve as a resource for students, families, and faculty on issues related to blindness, low vision, and accessibility.
