Desired Skills & Experience:

  • Valid teaching certification with an endorsement or specialization in Visual Impairment.
  • Strong knowledge of braille, assistive technology, and accommodations for students with visual impairments.
  • Previous experience working in a school or educational setting preferred.
  • Excellent communication skills to collaborate with staff, students, and parents.
  • Ability to adapt lessons and materials to meet individualized education plans (IEPs).
  • Passion for supporting student independence and fostering confidence in academic abilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Assess students visual and educational needs to develop appropriate instructional strategies.
  • Deliver tailored lessons in braille, orientation and mobility, and use of assistive technology.
  • Consult with general education teachers to modify classroom materials and activities.
  • Monitor student progress, adjusting instruction and supports as necessary.
  • Advocate for student inclusion in school and extracurricular activities.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to IEP meetings as part of the educational team.
