Qualifications & Experience:

  • Valid teaching certification with an endorsement in visual impairment
  • Demonstrated experience working with students who are blind or have low vision, ideally in a school setting
  • Strong knowledge of Braille, accessible technologies, and adaptive materials
  • Ability to develop and adapt individualized instructional strategies
  • Collaborative approach to working with multidisciplinary teams, families, and support staff
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills

Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction and support to students with visual impairments, both individually and in small groups
  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) in collaboration with other educators and specialists
  • Assess students' needs and recommend appropriate accommodations and assistive technologies
  • Offer orientation and mobility training, as appropriate
  • Serve as a resource to general education teachers and staff, promoting accessible learning environments
  • Monitor student progress and adjust strategies as needed to ensure optimal growth
  • Facilitate parent communications and participate in IEP meetings
