Desired Experience and Qualifications:
- Valid teaching certification in Visual Impairment or eligibility for certification
- Previous experience working as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired in a school setting preferred
- Proficiency in braille, assistive technology, and adaptive materials
- Strong communication skills to collaborate with staff, families, and related service providers
- Ability to adapt curriculum and instruction to meet unique student needs
- Reliable organizational and documentation abilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized educational plans for students with visual impairments
- Provide direct instruction in braille, orientation and mobility, low vision aids, and use of assistive technology
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to adapt lessons and materials for accessibility
- Conduct functional vision assessments and contribute to annual student evaluations
- Partner with families to support skill development and promote self-advocacy
- Uphold compliance with IEPs and maintain thorough records
