Desired Skills and Qualifications:
- Valid certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) or eligibility to obtain certification
- Experience working with children with visual impairments in educational settings
- Proficiency in Braille instruction, low vision techniques, and use of assistive technology
- Excellent communication and collaboration abilities
- Adaptable and creative in tailoring lessons to multiple learning styles and needs
Key Responsibilities:
- Assess student needs and develop individualized education plans (IEPs)
- Provide direct instruction in Braille, orientation and mobility, adaptive technology, and daily living skills
- Support general education teachers with classroom modifications and accessible materials
- Monitor student progress and document outcomes, adjusting instruction as needed
- Serve as a knowledgeable resource for parents, staff, and other stakeholders
- Advocate for inclusive practices and ensure access to all aspects of the educational experience
