Job Description

Desired Qualifications:

  • Valid certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
  • Previous experience working with K-12 students who are visually impaired or blind
  • Familiarity with Braille instruction and assistive technology for visual impairments
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to design, modify, and implement individualized educational plans (IEPs)
  • Knowledge of relevant state and federal regulations concerning special education

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct instruction and support to students with visual impairments, adapting lessons and materials as needed
  • Assess students functional vision and learning media preferences
  • Consult with general education teachers, related service providers, and families to foster inclusive learning environments
  • Create and maintain accurate documentation for student progress and IEP goals
  • Recommend and facilitate the use of assistive technology, orientation and mobility tools, and accessible educational resources
  • Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to developing appropriate student goals
