Qualifications:

  • Active Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with Teacher of the Visually Impaired endorsement required
  • Experience working with children or young adults with visual impairments preferred
  • Strong skills in individualized instruction and adapting curriculum materials
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills with students, families, and multidisciplinary teams
  • Commitment to creating inclusive and engaging classroom environments

Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialized instruction to students with visual impairments, adapting materials and teaching strategies as needed
  • Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, related service staff, and parents to support student success
  • Conduct vision assessments and provide recommendations for suitable accommodations and assistive technology
  • Foster independence and self-advocacy skills in students
  • Maintain accurate records and comply with all state and federal education regulations
  • Participate in professional development and school meetings
