Qualifications and Desired Experience:
- Valid certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) or eligibility in the state.
- Experience working with K-12 students who are blind or have low vision.
- Knowledge of braille, adaptive technology, and accommodations for visually impaired learners.
- Strong organizational and communication abilities.
- Ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including special education staff, support professionals, and families.
- Commitment to advocating for student inclusion and empowerment.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement education plans tailored to individual student needs.
- Provide direct instruction in braille, orientation and mobility, and use of assistive technology.
- Consult with classroom teachers to adapt assignments and classroom environments.
- Conduct functional vision assessments and contribute to IEP meetings.
- Offer guidance, resources, and training to school staff and families.
- Monitor and document student progress and adjust teaching strategies as required.
