Make a difference each day by providing essential support to students as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired in the Dallas, TX area. This contract position serves a diverse K-12 population across a 40-hour work week, Monday through Friday. The caseload involves 35 students, including five who require Braille instruction. The role balances consultation and direct teaching while collaborating with school staff and families to ensure every child thrives academically and personally.
Key Qualifications:
- Active Texas TVI certification is required
- Experience supporting K-12 students with visual impairments preferred
- Comfort with Braille instruction; willingness to teach and/or continue learning Braille
- Familiarity with or openness to learning about Monarch devices for accessible educational materials
- Capable of conducting evaluations and adapting interventions based on individual needs
Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct and consultative services to students who are blind or visually impaired, adapting instruction to meet diverse learning styles
- Provide targeted Braille instruction to designated students
- Complete comprehensive assessments and assist with IEP development, monitoring progress, and maintaining effective documentation
- Collaborate with classroom teachers and support staff to implement modifications and facilitate inclusion
- Engage parents/guardians in student goals, translating complex needs into actionable strategies
