Job Description

Empower students with visual impairments and make a meaningful impact in educational settings by sharing your expertise as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired. This full-time, contract opportunity offers the chance to collaborate with educators and families, travel to multiple district locations, and provide vital support to students from various backgrounds. Key Qualifications & Desired Experience:

  • Valid state certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired or eligibility for certification
  • Background working with children or youth who are blind or have low vision
  • Knowledge of adaptive technology, Braille instruction, and individualized education planning (IEPs)
  • Strong communication, organizational, and collaboration skills
  • Ability to travel between school sites within the district, as this role requires mobility
  • Commitment to supporting inclusive, student-centered learning environments

Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct and consultative services to students with visual impairments within educational settings
  • Conduct evaluations, assess student needs, and assist in developing, implementing, and updating IEPs
  • Teach adaptive skills, assistive technology, and Braille as necessary for student independence and academic success
  • Serve as a resource to teachers, support staff, and families, providing professional guidance and training
  • Support transitions and collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to meet diverse student needs

This is a full-time assignment (37.5-40 hours per week) with travel required between district sites. Start and end dates coincide with the academic calendar, typically from mid/late August through late May or early June.
