Job Description

Necessary qualifications and experience:

  • Valid teaching certification with endorsement in Visual Impairment
  • Previous experience working with K-12 students with visual impairments
  • Familiarity with Braille, assistive technology, and adaptive curriculum tools
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills
  • Ability to develop and implement individualized educational plans (IEPs)
  • Understanding of state and federal regulations regarding special education
  • Compassionate, patient, and dedicated work ethic

Primary responsibilities:

  • Develop and adapt instructional materials to ensure accessibility for visually impaired students
  • Provide direct instruction to students, focusing on academic, social, and daily living skills
  • Assess student abilities and progress, documenting growth and updating IEPs as needed
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, administration, families, and related services staff
  • Support students in accessing technology and mobility resources
  • Participate in IEP meetings and contribute expert insight for student programming
  • Advocate for student needs and inclusive practices within the school environment
