Qualifications:

  • Valid state certification as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired.
  • Experience developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with visual impairments.
  • Familiarity with Braille instruction, assistive technology, and adaptive materials.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with diverse teams.
  • Ability to adapt lessons and materials for a range of visual abilities and learning styles.

Responsibilities:

  • Assess student needs and design instructional strategies tailored to their abilities and goals.
  • Provide direct instruction in Braille literacy, adaptive technology, orientation and mobility skills, and other curriculum areas as needed.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, therapists, and family members to support student learning and access.
  • Modify curriculum materials and classroom environments to promote participation and success.
  • Maintain regular documentation of student progress and communicate updates to relevant team members.
  • Advocate for student access and create a positive, adaptive educational setting.
