Key Qualifications:

• Bachelors or masters degree in Education or Special Education, with additional certification in Visual Impairment
• Valid teaching credentials as required by the state
• Experience working as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) in a school setting preferred
• Knowledge of Braille, assistive technology, and techniques for adapting instructional materials
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, students, and families
• Adaptability and a student-centered approach to instruction

Responsibilities:

• Provide specialized instruction to students with visual impairments, both in individual and group settings
• Assess students functional vision and learning needs, developing individualized educational plans (IEPs)
• Consult with general education staff to adapt curriculum and classroom environments
• Teach Braille and the use of assistive devices as needed
• Monitor and document student progress, updating educational plans as necessary
• Empower students to develop self-advocacy and independent living skills
• Participate in IEP meetings and collaborate with parents, therapists, and other professionals
