Key Qualifications:
- Bachelors or masters degree in Education or Special Education, with additional certification in Visual Impairment
- Valid teaching credentials as required by the state
- Experience working as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) in a school setting preferred
- Knowledge of Braille, assistive technology, and techniques for adapting instructional materials
- Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, students, and families
- Adaptability and a student-centered approach to instruction
Responsibilities:
- Provide specialized instruction to students with visual impairments, both in individual and group settings
- Assess students functional vision and learning needs, developing individualized educational plans (IEPs)
- Consult with general education staff to adapt curriculum and classroom environments
- Teach Braille and the use of assistive devices as needed
- Monitor and document student progress, updating educational plans as necessary
- Empower students to develop self-advocacy and independent living skills
- Participate in IEP meetings and collaborate with parents, therapists, and other professionals
