Job Description

A school is seeking a dedicated Teacher for the Visually Impaired to provide specialized instruction to students from kindergarten through 12th grade. This contract position is based onsite in Clarkston, MI, offering a 35-hour workweek. The role focuses on delivering tailored educational support to visually impaired students, ensuring they receive appropriate resources and assistance to succeed academically and socially.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for visually impaired students K-12.
  • Provide direct instruction in skills related to visual impairment, including Braille, assistive technology, and orientation and mobility.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, parents, and other professionals to support student learning.
  • Conduct assessments and maintain detailed records of student progress.
  • Support students in accessing the general education curriculum effectively.
  • Comply with state and district requirements, including maintaining necessary documentation and attending relevant meetings.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Michigan Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) license.
  • Professional experience working as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired in school settings.
  • Completion of district fingerprinting and background checks as required.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage students, families, and educational staff.
