A school is seeking a dedicated Teacher for the Visually Impaired to provide specialized instruction to students from kindergarten through 12th grade. This contract position is based onsite in Clarkston, MI, offering a 35-hour workweek. The role focuses on delivering tailored educational support to visually impaired students, ensuring they receive appropriate resources and assistance to succeed academically and socially.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for visually impaired students K-12.
- Provide direct instruction in skills related to visual impairment, including Braille, assistive technology, and orientation and mobility.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers, parents, and other professionals to support student learning.
- Conduct assessments and maintain detailed records of student progress.
- Support students in accessing the general education curriculum effectively.
- Comply with state and district requirements, including maintaining necessary documentation and attending relevant meetings.
Qualifications:
- Valid Michigan Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) license.
- Professional experience working as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired in school settings.
- Completion of district fingerprinting and background checks as required.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to engage students, families, and educational staff.
