Qualifications & Experience Sought:

  • Valid certification or licensure as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired
  • Previous experience working in school environments highly valued
  • Solid understanding of adaptive technologies and braille instruction
  • Empathetic communication skills and the ability to advocate for student needs
  • Strong organizational abilities and commitment to individualized education planning
  • Flexibility and resourcefulness in adapting lesson materials and methods

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver direct instruction to students with a range of visual impairments, adapting curriculum as appropriate
  • Develop, implement, and monitor Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) tailored to each students strengths and goals
  • Recommend and facilitate use of assistive technology, including training staff and students
  • Evaluate and modify learning materials for accessibility, such as converting resources to braille or large print
  • Work collaboratively with classroom teachers to ensure inclusive practices
  • Serve as a resource for families, providing coaching and support to encourage student progress
  • Maintain accurate documentation of student progress, assessments, and meetings
