Step into a rewarding contract opportunity supporting K-12 students with moderate to severe vision impairment, set in an engaging and collaborative school environment near Chesapeake, VA. As an itinerant professional, youll travel between schools to deliver direct instruction and vital assessments, ensuring every student has the resources and support to succeed.
Your expertise will empower students through tailored vision services and innovative assistive technology, while you collaborate closely with classroom teachers, special education teams, and families. Youll play an essential role in promoting learning independence and accessibility across the district during the school year from August 24th, 2026, to June 4th, 2027.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Valid Virginia Teacher of the Visually Impaired Certification required
- Previous experience with K-12 students who have moderate to severe vision impairments preferred
- Strong knowledge of current assistive technology for visually impaired learners
- Exceptional communication skills and a collaborative spirit
- Ability to manage a dynamic, itinerant caseload across multiple school sites
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct comprehensive vision assessments and provide recommendations
- Deliver individualized and group instruction focused on compensatory skills and content access
- Train students, staff, and families in the use of assistive technology and adaptive materials
- Collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary teams to support IEP development and implementation
- Maintain detailed records and progress notes in compliance with district requirements
