Job Description
Make a difference in the lives of students by supporting their educational journey as a teacher for the visually impaired for the 2025-2026 school year. This is a contract position serving K-12 learners with visual impairments across multiple school sites in the Chesapeake, Norfolk, and Suffolk areas. Youll work full-time, Monday through Friday, fostering independence and inclusive participation for students with diverse visual needs from August 2025 through May 2026.
Qualifications:
- Hold a valid Virginia Endorsement in Blindness & Visual Impairments (required)
- Previous experience working with students who are visually impaired preferred
- Ability to adapt instructional materials and utilize assistive technology
- Strong communication skills to collaborate with families, school teams, and related services staff
- Experience with students in K-12 settings
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with visual impairments
- Provide direct instruction (academic and adaptive skills) and consultative support to school staff and families
- Adapt curriculum materials and environments for accessibility
- Teach specialized skills including Braille, orientation and mobility, and the use of assistive technology
- Participate in team meetings, IEPs, and ongoing professional development
- Serve as an advocate for the unique needs of visually impaired students
