Job Description

A full-time opportunity is available for a Teacher of the Visually Impaired serving K-12 students in a school setting located in Chesapeake, VA, with potential placement options in nearby cities including Norfolk and Suffolk, VA. This contract position runs from August 2025 through May 2026, encompassing a standard 37.5-hour workweek during the normal school year.

The role focuses exclusively on supporting students with visual impairments, providing specialized instruction and adaptive strategies to meet individual educational needs. As a key member of the educational team, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary professionals to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) and promote student independence.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering tailored instruction using techniques for blindness and visual impairments
  • Assessing student needs and adapting materials accordingly
  • Utilizing assistive technology and Braille resources
  • Monitoring progress and adjusting instructional plans as necessary
  • Collaborating with families, teachers, and support staff to foster inclusive environments

Qualifications required:

  • Valid Virginia endorsement in Blindness and Visual Impairments
  • Experience working with K-12 students who have visual impairments
  • Strong communication and organizational skills
  • Ability to conduct situational interviews promptly with decisions made within 24-48 hours
