Job Description
Bring your expertise as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI) to a dynamic contract role supporting students across K-12+ levels for the upcoming school year. Youll empower students in both general education and specialized classrooms, providing vital services both itinerantly across local campuses near Chattanooga and potentially virtually (for candidates with five or more years experience teaching as a virtual TVI). Both full-time and part-time schedules are possible, with assignments thoughtfully grouped to minimize travel whenever on-site.
Key qualifications and skills:
- Active DOE teaching certification
- Proficient with Braille and assistive technology; familiarity with Federal Quota program devices is a plus
- At least 5 years' experience in a virtual TVI role (if applying for a virtual position)
- Experience creating and implementing IEPs (using the TN Pulse platform is preferred)
- Comfortable with Chromebooks and integrating technology in instruction
- Willingness to complete all time-sensitive fingerprinting and credentialing requirements
- Strong collaborative skills for working with multi-disciplinary educational teams
- Flexibility and organizational skills to manage itinerant or virtual caseloads across elementary, middle, and high schools
- Compassion and skill in supporting students with multiple disabilities as well as those in general education settings
Role responsibilities:
- Deliver instruction in Braille and accessible technology for visually impaired students
- Assess student needs and tailor instructional approaches
- Travel between assigned schools or deliver high-quality virtual support
- Collaborate and actively participate in IEP meetings
- Support students access to Chromebooks and district-wide technology resources
- Maintain clear documentation and communication with families and educational colleagues
