In this role, youll collaborate closely with school staff, families, and fellow specialists to create accessible, engaging learning experiences. Strong communication skills, adaptability, and compassion are central as you empower students to reach academic and personal milestones.
Desired Qualifications:
- Valid state certification as a Teacher of the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Previous experience teaching or supporting students with visual impairments in a school setting
- Knowledge of braille, assistive technology, and orientation and mobility strategies
- Excellent ability to individualize instruction based on student needs
- Strong advocacy and communication skills for effective collaboration with IEP teams
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct assessments to determine student needs and service plans
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) aligned with student goals
- Teach academic skills using adapted methods and accessible materials
- Introduce and train students in the use of braille, large print, and assistive technology
- Consult with teachers and school staff on accommodations and classroom modifications
- Support student independence and functional life skills both in and outside the classroom
- Maintain accurate documentation and participate in IEP meetings
