Job Description

This contract position offers the opportunity to support learners with visual challenges, working closely with school staff and families to create an accessible and enriching educational environment.

Desired Experience and Qualifications:

  • Valid teaching certification with endorsement in Visual Impairment or a comparable credential.
  • Experience working with students who are blind or visually impaired in an educational setting.
  • Familiarity with Braille instruction, assistive technologies, and alternate communication formats.
  • Strong collaboration skills to consult with classroom teachers and other support staff.
  • Ability to assess student needs and adapt curriculum or materials as necessary.
  • Excellent communication skills with students, parents/guardians, and interdisciplinary teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver individualized and group instruction to students with visual impairments.
  • Develop and implement education plans tailored to meet student-specific needs.
  • Support students in accessing the general curriculum through adapted materials, orientation and mobility instruction, and assistive technology.
  • Participate in IEP meetings and assist in creating effective educational plans for students.
  • Provide guidance and resources to classroom teachers to ensure inclusivity and accessibility.
  • Monitor, document, and report on student progress to stakeholders.
