Qualifications and Experience:

  • State teaching certification in Visual Impairment or eligibility for certification
  • Experience working with students who are blind or have low vision
  • Strong understanding of accessible instructional materials and adaptive technology
  • Ability to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs)
  • Excellent collaboration, communication, and organizational skills
  • Flexibility and creativity in addressing diverse student needs

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess student abilities and develop tailored educational plans to support success
  • Consult and collaborate with general education teachers, related service providers, and families
  • Adapt curriculum and learning materials into accessible formats such as Braille, large print, or audio
  • Provide direct instruction in areas such as orientation and mobility, assistive technology, and daily living skills
  • Foster independence and self-advocacy among students with visual impairments
  • Participate actively in IEP meetings and maintain progress documentation
