Job Description

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Valid teaching certification with endorsement in Visual Impairment or related field
  • Prior experience working with students who are blind or visually impaired (preferred)
  • Familiarity with braille, assistive technology, and accessible educational materials
  • Strong collaborative skills to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams, families, and school staff
  • Excellent communication, organization, and problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to assess student needs and adapt curriculum accordingly

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction to students with visual impairments, individually and in small groups, targeting both academic and life skills
  • Develop, implement, and monitor individualized education plans (IEPs) and other documentation
  • Conduct functional vision assessments and recommend appropriate accommodations, equipment, and materials
  • Train and support staff on strategies and assistive technology to enhance student success and independence
  • Collaborate with general and special educators, related service providers, and families to promote student inclusion and achievement
  • Advocate for students access to curriculum, activities, and community participation
  • Maintain accurate records and participate in meetings as required
