Job Description
Make a difference in the lives of students by providing specialized instruction as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired in a dynamic school setting near Brownsville, TX. This contract position offers the opportunity to empower students with visual impairments to achieve their academic and personal goals in an inclusive environment.
Key Qualifications:
- Current certification or licensure as a Teacher for the Visually Impaired (TVI)
- Experience working with students who are blind or visually impaired in K-12 settings
- Strong understanding of specialized teaching strategies, adaptive technology, and Braille instruction
- Ability to collaborate effectively with classroom teachers, families, and support staff
- Excellent communication, organization, and documentation skills
Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) tailored to meet each students unique needs
- Deliver direct instruction in core academics, Braille literacy, orientation and mobility, and daily living skills
- Adapt classroom materials and curriculum to ensure accessibility for visually impaired students
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to provide consultation and resources for school staff and parents
- Monitor student progress and maintain up-to-date records in accordance with district and regulatory guidelines
- Advocate for an inclusive educational experience while encouraging student independence and self-advocacy
