Job Description

A dedicated professional is needed to provide specialized education services as a Visually Impaired Teacher in a school setting located in Brownsville, TX. This contract position offers the opportunity to make a significant impact on students with visual impairments by delivering tailored instructional support, assessments, and advocacy to promote academic and social development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) based on students' specific visual impairment needs.
  • Conduct assessments to evaluate students' vision-related learning challenges and adapt teaching methods accordingly.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers, families, and support staff to ensure accessibility and inclusion in academic activities.
  • Provide direct instruction in specialized skills such as orientation and mobility, braille literacy, and adaptive technology use.
  • Maintain accurate records on student progress and report to administrative and educational teams.
  • Stay updated on best practices and new technologies related to visual impairment education.

Desired Qualifications and Experience:

  • Certification or licensure as a teacher of students with visual impairments.
  • Experience working with children or youth who have visual impairments.
  • Strong knowledge of braille, assistive technology, and orientation/mobility strategies.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to liaise effectively with students, families, and educational teams.
  • Ability to adapt instructional materials and strategies to meet diverse learning needs.
