Job Description

Qualifications and Preferred Experience:

  • Valid teaching certification in Visual Impairment or eligibility for certification
  • Experience adapting curriculum and classroom materials for visually impaired students
  • Strong understanding of assistive technology and braille instruction
  • Excellent communication skills with students, staff, and families
  • Ability to assess student needs and track progress effectively
  • Dedication to fostering independence and confidence in students

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct instruction to students with visual impairments across grade levels, both individually and in small groups
  • Design and adapt lesson plans and resources to meet each students unique needs
  • Collaborate with general education teachers and other specialists for inclusive learning
  • Consult with families and staff to develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs)
  • Implement the use of assistive technologies and tactile learning methods
  • Evaluate student progress toward academic and functional goals
  • Participate in professional development to remain current in best practices for serving students with visual impairments
